Saturday vs. Sunday

Blog Insert #21
Saturday vs. Sunday

Saturdays and Sundays. These two days make up the weekend. For people between the ages of 5 and 18, Saturday and Sunday is like an oasis in the middle of the desert. It is a relaxation period between the school days of Friday and Monday. Now here's a question: which is better? Here we go. I consider Saturday to be better than Sunday because on Sunday, you are hampered by the fact that the weekend will soon end and you will have to go to school. Also, on Saturday you get to procrastinate, but on Sunday, you have to atone for your procrastination. Funny how that works. Comment on which you think is better and why.

Shoebills

Blog Insert #19
Shoebills
I was surfing the web when I found out about this bird called a shoebill. A picture of it is below. Weird looking, right? Here's some info about the shoebill that I got from:
http://lumq.com/10/weirdest-animals-and-creatures-in-the-world/
Shoebills are related to storks. It's a large bird, averaging about 4 ft tall. It's also pretty ugly, as you can see by the picture. They feed in muddy water and eat lungfish and other specimens of the sort. They nest on the ground and usually lay about two eggs.

Shakespeare

Shakespeare

In the 8th grade, we're currently reading "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare was a very weird person. We learned that Shakespeare had 17 ways of spelling his name! I thought that was kind of cool. Also, back in Shakespeare's day, there were two letters that we have in the alphabet that they didn't. I think they were y and u, but I'm not positive.

Messages in Bottles

Messages in Bottles

I heard somewhere in the news that a bottle was found in one of the Carolinas with a message in it. Apparently, the message was from 1969! In New York City! The bottle rode the currents all the way down to the Carolinas where a family on vacation found it on the beach. The person who sent off the bottle in 1969 was a fire fighter who worked in the New York Fire Department and enjoyed fishing. Unfortunately, the man died about 3 or 4 years ago. I thought it was cool that a regular person cast off a bottle with a message, which outlived himself. He kind of left a legacy by leaving the bottle. What would you write in a message that you were putting in a bottle?
