2009 is now upon us. It seemed like 2008 just left in a blink of an eye. Here are some of the best, and most important, events of 2008. By the way, the events are not listed in chronological order.

Barack Obama, a senator from Illinois, becomes the first African-American president ever to be elected into office, beating out the Republican representative John McCain and his vice president pick, who was the subject of many jokes, Sarah Palin. His inauguration is one of the most hyped one ever.
  • Death Toll in Iraq reaches 4000. President Bush may be remembered for the wars he left behind, and all the people who died serving their country.
  • Giants upset Patriots in Super Bowl. The Giants had a win for the ages in the Super Bowl, beating the previously undefeated Patriots. And finally, since I'm a Philly fan...
  • Phillies win in World Series! The Phillies beat the "Cinderella Team" of 2008, the Tampa Bay Rays, who wiped out the Red Sox in 7 Games. The Phils erased a 25 year drought in which the city of Philadelphia did not win a single championship in the four major sports: football, basketball, baseball, and hockey.
