Most Polluted Cities on Earth
I'm sure there are many of you out there who are big on helping out the environment. Well, here are the places that need the most help. You may not have heard of some of these cities, but that's okay.
- Linfen, China. Because of the huge amount of car emissions in China, Linfen is a soot-filled city. 3 million people are affected by this.
- Norilsk, Russia. Founded as a Siberian slave labor camp, Norilsk now affects nearly 1.5 million people due to mass nickel mining and processing.
- Chernobyl, Ukraine. Everybody's heard of Chernobyl, right? For those people who don't, Chernobyl was the site of a large nuclear power plant. When it exploded in 1986, it released 100 times more radiation than the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Initially, it was thought that 5.5 million people were affected, but that is being disputed.
- Sumgayit, Azerbaijan. I know what you're thinking: where the heck is Azerbaijan? I don't know either. Anyways, Sumgayit is polluted by organic chemicals and oil and affects the lives of 275 thousand people.
